CSC Scholarship (Silk Road Program) Application Information 2025

Introduction

The Tourism Major at the School of Business Administration (SBA) of Dongbei University of Finance & Economics (DUFE) is among the leading programs in China, offering top-quality education in Tourism and Hospitality Management. SBA is the primary contributor to the development of our university’s first-level discipline in Business Administration. The school provides a comprehensive education system that includes bachelor’s, master’s, and doctoral programs. In the fourth round of discipline evaluation by the Ministry of Education of China, SBA’s Business Administration discipline received an A- rating, ranking in the top 5–10% nationally. This ranking was further enhanced in the fifth round of discipline evaluation. In 2024, the SBA’s MBA program was awarded the highest five-star certification by QS Stars, becoming the first MBA program in China to achieve this prestigious recognition.

The school currently has 78 full-time faculty members and 23 administrative staff. Over the past five years, SBA has undertaken five major projects funded by the National Social Science Fund of China, 25 projects from both the National Natural Science Foundation of China and the National Social Science Fund of China, and over 100 other research projects. Additionally, the faculty has published 374 academic papers in nationally recognized journals and received 39 national, provincial, or ministerial-level awards. SBA boasts five national-level high-caliber talents, two members of the National Review Council of Business Administration Discipline, one National Outstanding Teacher, six Liaoning Province Teaching Masters, one Teaching Master from the “Xingliao Talent Plan”, one Liaoning Province Outstanding Teacher, two Liaoning Province Teaching and Educating Models, and two Liaoning Province Most Beautiful Teachers.

Adhering to the principles of “high standards and internationalization,” SBA has been actively expanding exchanges and cooperation with universities and academic institutions around the world. The school maintains regular academic exchanges with more than 40 renowned business schools globally, such as the University of Michigan-Flint (USA), University of Surrey (UK), Financial University under the Government of the Russian Federation, Kyushu University (Japan), Chungnam National University (South Korea), and Cologne University of Applied Sciences (Germany).

The Tourism Major at SBA was among the first in China to enroll doctoral students in Tourism and Hospitality Management, starting in 2000. It is a national-level major. In the 2025 Ranking of First-Class Majors in Chinese Universities by the Alumni Association, the Tourism Management major ranked 2nd nationwide (a 6-star major). The tourism major closely collaborates with the Ministry of Culture and Tourism of China, China Tourism Academy (CTA), and Dalian Tourism Development Commission. Together, they have co-established research centers and think tanks. The work of these research institutions has supported the tourism industry through policy recommendations, consultancy services, and tourism development plans, among other contributions.

 

Programs

PhD Program

The School of Business Administration offers a full-time PhD program focusing on tourism management.

Admission Requirements:

Academic background: 

Applicants must have successfully obtained a Master’s degree in Tourism Management or relevant areas with an average mark of over 80%;

Language proficiency:

 Native speaker or IELTS 6.0 or TOEFL iBT 80.

Two reference letters from previous teachers or supervisors.

Degree requirements:

In order to obtain a doctoral degree, candidates must:

Successfully complete all required courses and obtain enough credits required by a doctoral degree at DUFE;

Successfully pass and defend the doctoral thesis;

Publish at least one academic paper at SSCI indexed journal in tourism or hospitality field by the time of final submission of the doctoral thesis. 

Master Program

The school of Business Administration also offers a full-time program at the master’s level. The school aims to cultivate cultural and tourism leaders with cultural heritage, management characteristics, innovation consciousness and international pattern. Graduates of this program can work as administrators in tourism companies. This program focuses on shaping students' skills in problem-solving and logical thinking. Students in this program can take advantage of our close relationship with major international companies to conduct study and research. Students will also have the opportunity to gain an internship in world-renowned hotels and resort companies in Dalian.

This major includes two research orientations: Tourism Experience and Planning Design, Tourism Innovation and Industry Research

Admission Requirements:

Academic performance: Applicants must have successfully enrolled in the postgraduate program in Tourism Management or relevant disciplines at DUFE and the average marks by Year 1 should be above 70%;

Language proficiency: Native speaker or IELTS 6.0 or TOEFL iBT 80.

 

Application Documents

 (please provide all the documents in Chinese or English)

(1) Copy of Passport Home Page. If the validity of the applicant’s current passport does not meet the requirement (meaning the passport expires before September 2023), please apply for a new passport before submitting the application;

 

(2) Notarized highest diploma. Prospective diploma winners must submit official proof of student status by their current school. Documents in languages other than Chinese or English must be attached with notarized Chinese or English translations;

 

(3) Academic transcripts (from the undergraduate program onwards). Copies of academic records from first to last semester during the undergraduate, graduate (if any), and doctoral programs (if any) shall be provided. These transcripts shall be issued and sealed by the attending university’s academic affairs office, graduate school, or student management department. They can be in Chinese or English, but must be attached with notarized English translations if they are in foreign languages other than English;

 

(4) Language qualification certificates. Applicants for Chinese-taught programs must 

submit valid HSK reports (HSK4 or higher) in accordance with the corresponding Chinese proficiency requirements. Applicants for other language-taught programs shall provide relevant language proficiency certificates according to the universities’ requirements, like IELTS or TOEFL report;

 

(5)  A photocopy of the Foreigner Physical Examination Form completed in English (the original copy shall be kept by the applicant). The form is designed by the Chinese quarantine authority and can be obtained from the dispatching authority. The physical examinations must cover all the items listed in the Foreigner Physical Examination Form. Incomplete records or those without the signature of the attending physician, the official stamp of the hospital, or a sealed photograph of the applicants are invalid. 

Please select the appropriate time to take a physical examination as the result is valid 

for only 6 months;

 

(6) Non-criminal record report. The applicant shall submit a valid certificate of Non-

Criminal Record issued by the local public security authority, usually issued within 6 

months prior to the submission date of the application;

 

(7) A study plan proposal. A study plan written in Chinese or English shall contain more than 1,000 characters or words; the proposal of a doctoral student shall be signed by the applicant’s Chinese supervisor;

 

(8) Recommendation letters. Two letters of recommendation (written only in Chinese or English) from professors or associate professors shall be submitted. These letters shall describe the applicant’s objectives of learning in China, comprehensive abilities, and evaluation of future growth, as well as the cooperation between the supervisors or the exchange between universities both in China and abroad; 

 

(9) Resume;

 

(10) Lists of publication (including paper title, journal name and time), if any;

 

(11)  Lists of award certificates or works for particular talents and special skills, if any.

 

(12) Original “PHYSICAL EXAMINATION RECORD FOR FOREIGNER”, and Original “BLOOD TEST REPORT”.

The ‘agency number' of DUFE is 10173.
